When Images Aren't as Sharp as the Originals

Make sure the images you upload are large enough: At least1200 pixels (px) along the longer side. See our FAQ on Image Size here.

Also, make sure your computer isn't running any kind of accelerator program. These programs are most common with AOL and Earthlink and speed up your download speed by reducing image quality.

If your images appear jagged or distorted after you upload them to your site, it's from a compression setting in some browsers. This setting over-compresses images and graphics downloaded from the internet to give the appearance of faster download times. You can change the setting in the browser to allow for high-quality graphics. That will alleviate the jagged appearance but it will increase the time it takes for your pages to load.

Details:
Digital images can lose sharpness when their size is modified. If you upload a full-size 1800 x 1400 pixel image from a digital camera, it will create multiple images in sizes that may be needed for your site. Our software has built-in sharpening to compensate for this. However, if you feel the image still isn't sharp enough, you may want to resize it to 1200-2400 pixels (on the longer side). Then apply a sharpen or unsharp mask filter in your photo-editing program, before you upload it to your FASO Control Panel.

Another issue that can cause jaggines is if your image is too small. Again we recommend the range of 1200 right on up to 4000 px.

In most cases you shouldn't have to do much editing of your images before uploading to FASO.
