3 Ways to Add External Links (text, nav-bar, links category)

Place a link on your site to any other online page

Here are 3 ways you can add a link to a page on another site.

Add Link to Text using Insert Link Icon

You can add links to any text editing screen.

These instructions are from this FAQ: How do I add a live, clickable link to some text?

URL Info

Important:
You need to copy the full URL that appears in the address bar, such as:

 http://www.yourname.com

Then again, in some instances you may need to remove the www (such as when adding a custom link to your Navigation Bar).

If your link isn't working, try removing the www, so instead of adding:

https://www.yourdomain.com/yourpage

add it like this:

https://yourdomain.com/yourpage

It helps to copy the link url (website address) you wish to insert BEFORE starting the process below. The best way to grab this link is to open the site (or page) you want to link to. Copy the address that appears in the address bar (Control/C).

Go back to your FASO control panel and insert it using these instructions:

  • login to FASO Control Panel
  • click on the category or page where you want to add the link
  • enter some text such as Click here for more info
  • select/highlight your  text
  • click the Insert/edit Link icon in small tool bar above the text box (looks like a chain link)
    A new window pops up
  • paste (Control/V) the url/web address in the Link URL field
Check out this FAQ: Should I set my hyperlink to Open in New Window?
  • click Insert
  • Save Changes

Add Link to Navigation Bar Category

These instructions are from this FAQ: Can I add a link to an external site in my Navigation Bar?

  • login to FASO Control Panel
  • click Edit Navigation Bar OR Navigation Menu (left column)
  • under Menu Item Options (left column), click Custom Link
  • in Menu Structure (right column), click down arrow for Custom Link (to the right of the Link)
  • for Navigation Label, replace the word Link with your desired name which will show on your site (such as Blog, Prints, etc)
  • for URL field, replace the existing URL by pasting in your URL
  • click Save (green button, upper right)

Use the Links Category

Add additional links in the same manner.
