Set Up Auto Return

In order for a collector to be redirected back to your website after completing a transaction, you need to add your website address to the Auto Return setting in your PayPal account.  Auto Return sends customers back to your website automatically.

Here are some ideas for information and actions that work well with the Auto-return option:

• join your mailing list
• read your About page
• go to your Works page

How to:

• login to PayPal
• click profile name (upper right)
• click Account Settings
• click Website payments (left menu bar)
• click update for Website preferences
• for Auto return, select On
• enter your website's url
• click Save

Override the url for Certain Transactions

If you have created a custom button and wish to set Auto Return for that button to a specific url:

1. go to the PayPal editing screen for your custom button
2. click on Customize advanced features (optional)
3. for the field, Take customers to this URL when they finish checkout, enter the url
4. save

Examples of what this works well for: 

• a link to a workshop supply list, etc.
• a link to a downloadable file related to the purchase (a PDF, an audio file, or image files)
• a link to a specific blog post related to the purchase
• a link to a thank you page that requires special text or images specific to the transaction
